In China, small and dainty feet were desirable, so they would “bind” the feet of young girls. This consisted of manually breaking the foot and each toe and then wrapping the mangled foot in a tight bandage. The bandages would regularly be traded out for new, tighter bandages, so that the foot would “heal” into a new, ideally small, size. This too went out of fashion in the twentieth century. Thank God. Ouch!!!!
Randomly scattered throughout the world are women who engage in tightlacing. They wear tight corsets all day and night so that they can have teeny waistlines. I am really tempted to make fun of this one. Ouch!!!
Randomly scattered throughout the world are people who tattoo their entire bodies. Every inch. Ouch!!
Randomly scattered throughout the world are people who cut their tongues longitudinally and end up with a forked tongue. Ouch!
