Glad you guys checked the article. Jokes aside one reason Rock, Jesse Venture…etc…were left out was b/c I wanted to go for a unique and slightly less well known group of wrestlers. Just thinking outside the box a bit as I mentioned in the intro. In the future maybe I'll do “Another 5 Wrestlers Who Achieved Awesomeness…Outside the Ring” at which point they could be included.

Just recently, on “Real Sports with Bryant Gumbel” on HBO, Chris Nowinski and fellow doctor postulated that there is a strong link between concussions and Lou Gehrig’s Disease (ALS). The story featured several athletes in contact sports, that had suffered head trauma, now suffering from the fatal disease.

Though still considered inconclusive by the experts, Gumbel showed that Nowinski’s theories had merit when the reporter listed the six major head injuries Gehrig himself had suffered, and then continued to play through them during his Iron Man streak (many that include getting hit by high and inside fastballs). A reminder: they didn’t have helmets back then.

So Nowinski gets mad props and should be number one in my opinion in finding a possible cause to ALS.
