Video game addiction can cause a person to die; healthy or otherwise. If a game like Berzerk, Donkey Kong, Centipeed, Mario or any other game that has high scores to be broken; people would feel obligated or compelled to play for pro long periods of time to achieve the highest score.

After a while there were games that didn't have a scoring system, but it had deeper story line and game play; but no save function. Which didn't make it any better from games that had scoring. That was because the moment you turned off that game you knew you had to start all over again just to get where you were. What a nightmare that was. Fortunately someone somewhere invented game saves via directly to hard drives for PC gamers and memory cards for consoles. Of course when the PlayStation 2 was released, it had a separate hard drive, but its use wasn't for direct game play saves. With this current generation consoles it remedied that problem.

Then we look at Massive Multi-Player Online Role playing games. Ah, yes the never ending skinner's box. A player logs in via PC or rarely console and you're at the sign in screen or registration once done you get the updates finally, you get to create your character. You've set your character to the way you would like it and it's off to start touring the area your character had just been placed in. After your tour it is time to start grinding… Oh how I hate that part. Thankfully there are some MMOs that allow you solo game play ablities. Which meant you could play a bit get somethings done and log off.

But that doesn't mean people would do that. They would spend their entire waking hours in front of their PC to gain level after level then start aiming for that great armor set, having the best weapons, accessories, and complete expansion packs to name a few. Then there are MMOs that are all around unforgiven; they require to have a party for just about everything. Leveling, missions and even gathering for killing multiple mobs for that one item for one person; with painfully low drop rates. People will actually sit around and keep playing till they get what they want. Or even engage in combating very powerful bosses for a drop that may not even drop at all, but requires at least 24 hour or more to beat.
