Okay, they were 'fiery serpents" not snakes made of fire. Simply, they were a local venomous snake, possibly the Palestine Viper, which, oddly, has a color of orange to red in a zig-zag pattern, (like fire, perhaps?) Since we don't know for certain what part of the year this was, it is possible that the Lord brought them, en masse, out of hibernation? Just my own speculation.
And, good to see you get right that it was God who passed through Egypt, and not the 'angel of death', as the Bible clearly states it was God Himself that did it. The blood was representative of the blood of Christ, the Passover Lamb of God, who would shed His blood for the sin of the world, applying it to the hearts of those who believe and call upon Him for salvation.

Although the passover plague seems "bizarre", it is a picture of an event that happened in the New Testament. When the Angel of Death saw the blood of the lamb (which, by the way, had to be a male without "spot or blemish"), he would "pass over" that home and leave the first born son that resided inside safe. The crucifixion of Christ mirrors this event. Christ is the spotless sacrificial lamb that was slain on the Cross. If we put our trust in His shed blood on that Cross, God will forgive our sin, guarantee us a spot in Heaven and "pass over" as it relates to eternal death in Hell. Pretty cool, huh?

Incidentally, each of the plagues in Egypt were intended to show the superiority of the Jehovah God over a specific Egyptian God. For example, Ra the sun god was being directly targeted when Jehovah God blotted out the sun.
